What's I.I.R.?
I.I.R. (Institute of
International Relations) was founded in 1956 as a public welfare
organisation of Keio University .
Public welfare organisation is a type of student organisation that aims at
enriching students' cultural and gymnastic activities based on students'
consensus. As a public welfare organisation, I.I.R. does various
activities
to broaden students' horizon by experiencing international exchange
under the financial support of Keio University. I.I.R. now
has partnerships with more than 20 student
organisations all over the world.
Our activities
For the purpose of achieving
mutual understanding and making a firm friendship with foreign students,
we engage in the following activities;
- Holding a two-week programme twice a year
with the aim of introducing Japan from various points of view. The
programme includes such as sightseeing, company visits,
experiencing Japanese tradition, international cooking, short
trips, parties and lots more!
- Sending Keio students to International
Weeks (IW) held abroad to offer them opportunities to
experience different cultures. This activity is the backbone of
I.I.R. as a public welfare organisation of Keio University.
- Keeping contact with affiliated student
organisations overseas via e-mail. In addition, I.I.R. is always
ready to build new partnerships, and in order to accomplish this
aim, we would never be negligent in writing to "you"!
- Planning events concerning with international
exchange or just for fun.
I.I.R. would be glad to take
contact with all of "you" :-)
About members of I.I.R.
I.I.R. has about 80 staff
members. All the members are students of faculties of Keio University
and are around 18-21 years old. Since
Keio has faculties of science & technology, economics,
law & politics, letters, and pharmacy etc,
their major varies a lot. Some can speak English
fluently as they are returnee students, on the other hands some doesn't so
well. However, everybody is eager to have exciting international
communication and make friendship with foreign students.
We have elections every year and decide several appointments, for
example chairman, chief organiser of two programmes, financial
custodian, liaison clerk and so on, for the smooth operation
of the IIR activities. On the other hand the chief organiser
of
the each day of the spring and summer programme are elected so that they can take
initiative to make the best programme.
Where we are
Keio has six campuses around in Tokyo and I.I.R.
has
clubrooms both in Hiyoshi Campus (Kanagawa prefecture, south
of Tokyo) and Mita Campus (Centre of Tokyo), which are
the centre of I.I.R. dairy activities. Spring & summer
programme is mainly held within about an hour
distance from these campuses by train.
